Choreography by Paul Julius
Originally created in 2011 for Davina Kramer and Rustam Savrasov, soloists of the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin, In the Rain Again was conceived for performances in international dance galas and festivals. The work combines classical ballet technique with a contemporary movement language and was presented at a number of international gala and festival events, including the International Dance Gala at Oper Graz, the Opening Gala of the 20th Dance Week in Dresden, TanzArt Ost/West in Giessen and Stadsschouwburg Arnhem. The work was subsequently taken into the repertoire of Bohemia Ballet in Prague and performed internationally, including at the X International Ballet Festival of Cali, Colombia, in 2016, where it was danced by Gaëtan Pires and Maria Rosa Pace.
In 2022, In the Rain Again was taken up by the Japan Contemporary Dance Company (JCDC). Its Kawasaki premiere featured JCDC soloist Miu Kato together with guest principal Shori Yamamoto, then a dancer with Gauthier Dance // Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart. The official JCDC programme describes the work specifically as a contemporary piece performed en pointe.
Importantly, the choreography and musical structure have remained unchanged throughout these different productions; the work has been performed by different dancers and companies.
